Founded in 1967, DR. SOLER, v. HOHENLOHE, ENGEL was one of the first truly modern law firms in Spain, which greatly helped the country share its economic potential by opening up to the rest of the world.
Since its beginning, the firm’s practice has focused on Corporate Law, specializing in all aspects of international business and investment consulting. This practice is closely related to the surge in foreign investment in Spain, which took place from the early 1970s to the late 1990s, particularly brought on by German companies. While Soler-Padró has had a greater impact on Barcelona, the Balearic Islands, Malaga, and the Canary Islands, Associates Lionel and B. von Hohenlohe have primarily served Spanish and English-speaking clients in Madrid, Valencia, and Alicante.
Throughout its history DR. SOLER, v. HOHENLOHE, ENGEL has not hesitated to undertake novel and controversial legal actions of great public interest and importance. One example is the representation of football player Bernd Schuster in a two-year legal dispute against Football Club Barcelona. This case marked the first legal action in the area of Sports Law in Spanish history.
Since the latter part of the 1980s, Soler-Padró has been at the forefront defending the rights of shareholders. In the early nineties, the firm successfully led a high-profile legal battle in a takeover for a Spanish listed chemical and textile group. It was the first attempted hostile takeover of a listed company through a leveraged buy-out in Spanish history. The case was litigated for almost a decade in Spanish courts before being resolved in favor of the shareholders.
DR. SOLER, v. HOHENLOHE, ENGEL combines the efforts of professionals with diverse experience and backgrounds from the legal and business worlds. Through this diversity we are able to tackle and resolve complex cases and offer solutions tailored to the unique needs and requests of each client. The firm’s working languages include German, English, French, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, and Chinese.
Since its inception, DR. SOLER, v. HOHENLOHE, ENGEL has maintained offices in Barcelona, Madrid, Palma, Marbella, and the Canary Islands, and has worked closely with attorneys and consultants in different countries to better serve its clients and broaden its international scope. Since 1991, Soler-Padró, v. Hohenlohe, Weitzmann has worked with partners Morrow & Co. in New York (www.morrowco.com) and, since 1996, with consulting firm Hispachina based in Beijing.**
